Are you thinking about moving to Manhattan Beach? There’s a reason why Manhattan Beach is repeatedly voted one of the best places to live in the nation and I am giving you my top 8 reasons why Manhattan Beach is one of the best suburbs in Los Angeles!

Manhattan Beach is located within the South Bay area of Los Angeles county just 4 miles South of LAX airport along the Pacific Coast. It’s a quintessential beach town and my personal favorite city in Los Angeles. Manhattan Beach is beautiful, but living here does come with a hefty price tag. The median single family home price is $3.5M and the median sales price for townhouses and condos is $2.5M. The good news is that this is such a desirable place to live and you will see a return on your investment because home prices have appreciated over 20% just in the last year!

Top 8 Reasons why Manhattan Beach is the Best Suburb in Los Angeles

1. The Beach and the Weather

This has to be the top reason to live in Manhattan Beach. The weather is between 60 and 80 degrees year round and there have been many days in January where I have been sitting on the beach in 80 degree weather! You cannot beat it! As someone who grew up in the Midwest, I appreciate this beautiful weather every single day! Manhattan Beach is one of my favorite beaches in all of Southern California. It’s very clean and well-kept and less touristy and crowded than other beaches nearby like Santa Monica or Venice. Manhattan Beach is also one of the most desirable places to surf in Los Angeles and you can catch the international surf festival here in the summer. We are also lucky to have some of the most beautiful sunsets in Manhattan Beach!

2. Manhattan Beach is an Active City

If you are an active person then Manhattan Beach is the place for you! Manhattan Beach is a very active city. You will always find people walking, running or biking the Strand that runs along the ocean. It’s also a huge volleyball town with many professional volleyball players practicing and competing in Manhattan Beach. Any day of the week you will see volleyball games in action and can catch The Manhattan Beach Open and 6th Man Volleyball tournaments in the Summer. There are also many professional athletes from the Kings and Lakers who live in Manhattan Beach since their practice facilities are located nearby in El Segundo as well as other celebrities like Vince Vaughan, Michael Strahan and Maria Sharapova to name a few. There are numerous workout and wellness businesses in the area along with healthy dining options so it’s very easy to stay fit and healthy! Some of my favorite workouts are Coreology and Rock It Body Pilates if you want a more intense pilates practice. I also love Soul Cycle and Yoga Works that are nearby in El Segundo. The Source Café is one of my favorite go to quick healthy lunch and snack spots! Try the bananza smoothie, the tuna salad or the veggie wrap! Petros in the Downtown area also has an amazing chopped feta caesar salad.

3. Family Friendly

Manhattan Beach is a family friendly city and has an amazing public school system, which is a big reason why many families choose to live here. Manhattan Beach Unified is one of the top school districts in all of California. There is Mira Costa High School, Manhattan Beach Middle School and five elementary schools that include Grand View, Meadows, Pacific, Pennekamp and Robinson Elementary. All of the schools are award winning and rank in the top 1% of all public schools. Manhattan Beach Unified is also an Apple Distinguished School District and a national tech leader.

4. Convenient Location

Manhattan Beach is the most conveniently located city in the South Bay. You are less than 15 minutes to LAX, which is great for frequent or business travelers and you are only a few minutes away from the 105 and 405 freeways so you can easily travel around Los Angeles.

5. Activities Galore

Manhattan Beach has no shortage of fun activities and things to do. There are many community events such as holiday fireworks, summer concerts, weekly farmers market, the hometown fair in the fall, volleyball and surf competitions as well as great restaurants, lounges and shopping. Downtown Manhattan Beach is home to over 150 retailers so there’s an option for everyone! The Manhattan Beach Village has also undergone a complete makeover and they are adding many new restaurants and shops to make Manhattan Beach even more of a destination spot. The Downtown area is great for shopping and home to many of LA’s top restaurants.

6. Great Restaurants

Manhattan Beach has so many great restaurants for all the foodies out there. One of my favorite spots is Strand House, which has phenomenal food with a menu that changes seasonally. You will also enjoy a great view of the pier and ocean while you have your dinner! If you save room for dessert you should definitely try the donut sampler. Arthur J is an amazing steakhouse on Manhattan Avenue with moody mid-century modern décor and repeatedly voted one of the best steakhouses in L.A. Make sure to try the beef fat fries and strawberry popovers if you aren’t worried about calories. Afterwards, head across the street for a drink and live music at Sand Bar. For a great Italian restaurant check out Love & Salt located on Manhattan Beach Blvd. right up the street from Strand House. If seafood is more your speed make sure to visit Michelin rated Fishing with Dynamite and if you are feeling indulgent definitely get the seafood tower which gives you an amazing sampler of shrimp, oysters, lobster and crab to name a few!

7. Great Employers Nearby

Besides the great food, the South Bay is home to many aerospace and tech employers nearby. Manhattan Beach is on the edge of the area known as Silicon Beach and you have companies such as Google, YouTube, ChowNow, GoGuardian, and Next Trucking to name a few. There are also many aerospace and defense companies located in the South Bay such as Boeing, Raytheon, SpaceX, Los Angeles Air Force Base and Lockheed Martin. If you are lucky to work at one of these companies you can avoid the 405 for your morning commute!

8. Less Traffic

When you think Los Angeles, you think traffic, but the great thing about living in Manhattan Beach and the South Bay is that as long as you don’t have to commute outside of the South Bay, there is rarely bad traffic within the South Bay, which is a huge plus in Los Angeles! The South Bay has everything you need. Home Depot, Costco, great restaurants, shopping and more and that is why people refer to the South Bay as the bubble because there’s really no need to leave.

Those are just a few of the reasons why I think Manhattan Beach is the best suburb in Los Angeles!
